Two Harbors Breakwater Light

Built in 1906, the Two Harbors Breakwater Light guided iron ore ships through one of Lake Superior’s busiest harbors. The compact steel tower stands at the end of a concrete breakwater, marking the entrance to Agate Bay. Now decommissioned, the light is no longer active and is not open to the public — visitors cannot climb the tower or access the breakwater structure.

The lighthouse photographs best at sunrise, when warm light catches the tower against the open lake. Fall offers dramatic wave action during Superior’s legendary storms.

Nearby, the Two Harbors Light Station (still operational) hosts a museum and bed-and-breakfast. The town also serves as a gateway to Gooseberry Falls and Split Rock Lighthouse.
