Duluth South Breakwater Outer Light
Standing guard at the entrance to Duluth Harbor since 1874, the Duluth South Breakwater Outer Light is one of Minnesota’s most photographed landmarks. This active navigational aid marks the ship canal where massive ore boats and lake freighters pass just feet from the breakwater. The light is not open to public climbing, but visitors can walk the breakwater for close-up views. Golden hour and winter ice formations make for stunning photography — sunrise shots with the Aerial Lift Bridge in the background are especially striking. Nearby, explore Canal Park’s shops and restaurants, the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center, and the iconic Aerial Lift Bridge, all within easy walking distance.
