Standing guard at the entrance to Superior Harbor since 1913, this active lighthouse marks the western tip of Wisconsin Point — the longest natural freshwater sandbar in the world. The steel-framed tower rises from the breakwater, guiding vessels through one of the busiest port complexes on the Great Lakes.

The light is not open to the public and cannot be climbed, but it’s easily photographed from Wisconsin Point Beach. Golden hour and sunset offer the best light, with dramatic backdrops of ore boats passing beneath the tower. The surrounding area features excellent birding along the Wisconsin Point trail, nearby Barker’s Island, and the SS Meteor museum — the last remaining whaleback ship.
