Duluth North Pier Light
Lake Superior · Minnesota
Standing guard at the entrance to Duluth’s iconic ship canal since 1910, the Duluth North Pier Light guides vessels into one of the Great Lakes’ busiest inland ports. This steel-framed tower rises from the north breakwater pier, its beacon still active and aiding navigation on Lake Superior. While the lighthouse is not open to the public for climbing, it remains a beloved landmark easily viewed from Canal Park. Photographers find golden hour and stormy autumn skies particularly dramatic. Nearby, the Aerial Lift Bridge operates just steps away, and visitors can watch massive ore boats pass through the canal. The Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center and Canal Park’s waterfront shops and restaurants are within easy walking distance.
