Muskegon Pier Light

Standing guard at the entrance to Muskegon Lake since 1903, the Muskegon Pier Light is one of Michigan’s most recognizable navigational beacons. The striking red steel tower and its attached catwalk extend along the south breakwater, guiding vessels through the Muskegon Channel. Still an active aid to navigation, the lighthouse is not open to the public for climbing, though visitors can walk the pier for close-up views. Sunset is the ideal time for photography, when the light glows against dramatic Lake Michigan skies. Nearby, Pere Marquette Beach offers swimming and dunes, while downtown Muskegon features the USS Silversides submarine museum and the Muskegon Museum of Art.
