Standing guard at the entrance to Muskegon Lake on Lake Michigan’s eastern shore, the Muskegon Breakwater Light has guided mariners since 1851. The current steel-and-concrete structure, positioned at the end of the south pier, remains an active navigational aid maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard. While the lighthouse is not open to the public, visitors can walk the breakwater pier for close-up views. Golden hour and stormy skies create dramatic photography opportunities, with sunset shots from Pere Marquette Beach being especially striking.
