Standing guard over White Lake Channel since 1875, White River Light is one of Michigan’s most picturesque beacons. The octagonal limestone tower and attached keeper’s dwelling were built to guide vessels navigating the treacherous passage between White Lake and Lake Michigan. Now home to the White River Light Station Museum, the site showcases maritime artifacts, photographs, and restored keeper’s quarters. The lighthouse is not open for public climbing, but the grounds offer excellent exterior views. Photographers find golden hour particularly rewarding, with the tower framed against Lake Michigan sunsets. Nearby, visitors can explore White Lake’s waterfront, the dunes at Duck Lake State Park, and the charming shops of downtown Whitehall and Montague.
