Built in 1838, Gibraltar Light stands along the shores of Gibraltar, Michigan, where the Detroit River meets Lake Erie. This historic beacon once guided vessels through one of the Great Lakes’ busiest shipping corridors. Though no longer active, the lighthouse remains a striking landmark with its classic 19th-century construction.

The tower is not open to the public, so visitors cannot climb it, but it’s easily viewed and photographed from nearby vantage points. Golden hour offers the best light, especially at sunset when the tower silhouettes against the water. While in the area, explore the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and nearby Lake Erie Metropark for hiking, birding, and waterfront trails.
