Charlotte–Genesee Lighthouse

Built in 1822, the Charlotte–Genesee Lighthouse is one of the oldest surviving lighthouses on Lake Ontario. Located in Rochester, New York, at the mouth of the Genesee River, it guided maritime traffic for over a century before being decommissioned. The octagonal stone tower and attached keeper’s dwelling are now maintained by the Charlotte–Genesee Lighthouse Historical Society.

The lighthouse is not currently open to the public, so visitors cannot climb the tower. However, the exterior and surrounding grounds offer excellent photo opportunities, particularly during golden hour with Lake Ontario as a backdrop. Nearby attractions include Ontario Beach Park, the Port of Rochester, and the Genesee Riverway Trail.
