Standing at the mouth of the Cheboygan River since 1880, this compact lighthouse guided vessels navigating the junction of Lake Huron and the inland waterway. The square wooden tower, still an active navigational aid, is one of few surviving front range lights on the Great Lakes. Though not open to the public or available for climbing, the lighthouse is easily viewed and photographed from the adjacent riverfront. Golden hour light from the west makes sunset the ideal time for photography. Nearby, visitors can explore Cheboygan State Park, the historic Cheboygan Opera House, and Gordon Turner Park, or take a short drive to the Straits of Mackinac for sweeping lakefront views.
