Standing guard where the Cheboygan River meets Lake Huron, the Cheboygan Crib Light has guided mariners since 1857. This compact, square lighthouse sits atop a concrete crib foundation offshore, making it one of Michigan’s most distinctive navigational aids. Still an active beacon, it continues to serve Great Lakes shipping traffic.

The light is not open to the public and cannot be climbed, but it’s easily photographed from Gordon Turner Park and the Cheboygan waterfront. Golden hour and winter ice formations create the most dramatic shots. While visiting, explore the Cheboygan Range Lights, the Inland Waterway, and nearby Mackinaw City, gateway to Mackinac Island.
