Oceanside Beach State Recreation Site sits along Oregon’s North Coast, offering one of the region’s most striking shoreline views. The beach looks directly out at Three Arch Rocks, a massive offshore wildlife refuge where sea lions, murres, and tufted puffins congregate by the thousands — visible from shore with binoculars or even the naked eye on clear days.

The beach itself is a wide crescent of sand framed by steep, forested headlands. A sea cave tunnel carved through Maxwell Point connects Oceanside Beach to a hidden cove on the north side, accessible at low tide. Walking through the tunnel and emerging onto the secluded beach beyond is one of the coast’s most memorable experiences — just time your visit with the tide charts.

Activities center on beachcombing, tidepooling, wildlife watching, and photography. The rocky intertidal zones at the base of the headlands reveal anemones, sea stars, and hermit crabs during low tides. Surfing and boogie boarding are possible but conditions are inconsistent. The beach is also a solid spot for agate hunting after winter storms churn up the sand.

No camping facilities exist at the recreation site itself, but nearby Cape Lookout State Park offers full-service campgrounds just a short drive south along the Three Capes Scenic Route.

Summer brings the warmest weather and biggest crowds, but fall offers clearer skies and dramatic storm-watching potential. The small village of Oceanside has a handful of restaurants and vacation rentals, keeping the area quieter and less commercialized than neighboring beach towns.
