Deans Cove Boat Launch
New York (Finger Lakes County)
Tucked along the western shore of Cayuga Lake in New York’s Finger Lakes region, Deans Cove Boat Launch offers a compact but well-positioned 10-acre gateway to one of the longest and deepest Finger Lakes. Managed as a state park site, this launch serves as a practical jumping-off point for boaters, kayakers, and anglers drawn to Cayuga Lake’s exceptional water access.
The real draw here is the lake itself. Cayuga stretches nearly 40 miles and reaches depths over 400 feet, supporting healthy populations of lake trout, rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, and landlocked salmon. Anglers will find the launch convenient for reaching both the lake’s deep central channel and its productive shallower bays. Kayakers and canoeists can paddle south toward Taughannock Falls State Park or explore the quieter coves along the western shoreline.
Beyond the water, the Finger Lakes wine trail runs nearby, making Deans Cove a natural pairing with a day of vineyard hopping. Several acclaimed wineries sit within a short drive, and the town of Ithaca — with its gorges, restaurants, and Cornell University campus — lies just down the lake.
Late spring through early fall delivers the best conditions, with summer weekends being the busiest at the launch. Weekday mornings offer calmer water and less competition for ramp space. Fall brings stunning foliage reflected across the lake’s surface and excellent trout fishing as temperatures drop.
Come prepared with your own supplies — this is a no-frills launch site focused on getting you onto the water efficiently.
