Keuka Lake State Park
Tucked along the western shore of Keuka Lake — the only branched lake in the Finger Lakes — this 621-acre state park has been drawing visitors since 1961 with its blend of waterfront access and wooded hillside trails. The Y-shaped lake itself is the star here, offering unusually clear water and a quieter atmosphere than its larger neighbors, Seneca and Cayuga.
The park sits on a bluff above the lake, with a trail leading down to a gravel beach and swimming area. Fishing is a major draw: Keuka Lake is known for lake trout and landlocked salmon, and the park provides a solid launch point for anglers working the western shore. Hiking trails wind through mixed hardwood forest, and the terrain is gentle enough for families but interesting enough to hold your attention.
Boating, picnicking, and bird watching round out the warm-weather activities. The surrounding Finger Lakes wine country — particularly the Keuka Lake Wine Trail — makes for an easy day-trip pairing if you want to mix outdoor time with tastings.
The best window to visit is late June through September, when the lake is warm enough for swimming and the hillsides are fully leafed out. Early October brings peak fall color, and the park is far less crowded. Winters are cold and most facilities close.
If you’re looking for a Finger Lakes park that trades crowds for character, Keuka Lake State Park delivers.
