The House Range Recreation Area in west-central Utah offers rugged desert terrain and dramatic geologic features managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The highlight is Notch Peak, featuring the third-largest vertical cliff face in North America—a striking limestone escarpment rising nearly 2,000 feet. The range spans from high-elevation bristlecone pine forests to arid valley floors, creating diverse landscapes for exploration.

Dispersed camping is permitted throughout the area, with no developed campgrounds or facilities available. Visitors should arrive fully self-sufficient with water, fuel, and supplies. Access is via dirt roads that may require high-clearance vehicles, particularly when traveling through Marjum Pass or up Amasa Valley.

Popular activities include hiking to Notch Peak’s summit, OHV riding on designated routes, mountain biking, horseback riding, and wildlife viewing. The area draws hunters during deer season. A historic hermit’s cabin tucked in one of the canyons makes for an interesting hiking destination.

Spring and fall provide the most comfortable temperatures for camping and hiking. Summer brings extreme heat at lower elevations, while winter snow can make high-country access difficult.
