The US 6/US 50/US 93 corridor traverses White Pine County in eastern Nevada, passing through some of the most remote and sparsely populated terrain in the continental United States near the northern reaches of Great Basin National Park. US 50 carries its famous designation as the Loneliest Road in America through this stretch, where vast basin-and-range geography unfolds in every direction.

The route crosses broad valleys flanked by mountain ranges that rise abruptly from the desert floor, a landscape created by millions of years of tectonic stretching. Sagebrush flats give way to pinyon-juniper woodland at higher elevations, with bristlecone pine and alpine terrain on the tallest peaks. The sky dominates this landscape — enormous and unobstructed, it delivers some of the darkest night skies remaining in the Lower 48.

Great Basin National Park, the primary destination accessible from this corridor, protects Wheeler Peak, Lehman Caves, and one of the southernmost glaciers in North America. The park receives far fewer visitors than most national parks, offering solitude alongside its geological and biological treasures.

Services are extremely limited along this route. Ely, the county seat, provides the most complete services, while smaller communities offer basic fuel and food at widely spaced intervals. Carry extra water, fuel, and supplies, and be prepared for extreme temperature swings between day and night. Cell service is largely unavailable between towns.
