Table Rock State Park
South Carolina (Pickens County)
About This Park
This recreation area is part of Table Rock Lake
Rising sharply from the Blue Ridge foothills of Pickens County, Table Rock State Park covers 3,083 acres of some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in South Carolina. The park’s namesake — a massive granite pluton with a broad, flat summit — dominates the skyline and draws hikers from across the Southeast eager to tackle the challenging 3.6-mile trail to its 3,124-foot peak.
Beyond the iconic summit hike, the park offers trails for every skill level, from the gentle Carrick Creek Nature Trail winding through cove hardwood forest to the strenuous Pinnacle Mountain Trail, which rewards with panoramic views stretching into North Carolina and Georgia. The two trails can be combined for a rugged 8-mile loop that ranks among the best day hikes in the state.
Fishing and swimming at Pinnacle Lake provide a welcome cooldown after time on the trails, and the park’s picnic areas sit in shaded groves perfect for a midday break. The CCC-era lodge and cabins, built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, add historic charm and remain available for overnight stays alongside traditional campground sites.
Fall is the standout season here — the hardwood canopy erupts in color from mid-October through early November, and cooler temperatures make summit attempts far more comfortable. Spring wildflower season (late March through April) is a close second.
Expect well-maintained trails, reliable signage, and a park that feels genuinely wild despite being just 16 miles north of Pickens.
