Stonefield Beach State Recreation Site
Oregon (Central Coast County)
I don’t have web search permissions right now, but I do know about Stonefield Beach from my training data. Here’s the description:
Stonefield Beach State Recreation Site sits along Oregon’s central coast between Yachats and Florence, where a short forested trail opens onto a dramatic stretch of rocky shoreline. This small, uncrowded site is one of the coast’s quieter gems — a place where tidepools, sea stacks, and driftwood-strewn sand reward visitors who take the time to explore.
A brief walk down a wooded path delivers you to the beach, where the real draw is the rugged intertidal zone. At low tide, pools teem with sea stars, anemones, and hermit crabs, making this an excellent spot for tidepooling with kids or a camera. The sea stacks and rocky outcrops give the shoreline a wild, sculpted feel that’s distinctly Oregon. Beachcombing is rewarding here — agates and interesting stones turn up regularly, especially after winter storms.
There’s no camping at Stonefield Beach itself, but nearby options abound. Carl G. Washburne Memorial State Park, just a few miles south, offers both tent and full-hookup sites steps from the coast. Rock Creek Campground in Siuslaw National Forest is another solid choice.
The best time to visit is late spring through early fall for mild weather, though winter storm-watching from the bluff trail is its own kind of spectacular. Low tide is essential for the best tidepooling — check a tide chart before you go.
Expect no facilities beyond a small parking area and the trail. Bring layers, sturdy shoes for the rocks, and plenty of curiosity.
