Sojourner Truth State Park

Named for the legendary abolitionist and women’s rights activist, Sojourner Truth State Park is one of New York’s newest state parks, established in 2022 along the western shore of the Hudson River in Rockland County. Spanning 508 acres of dramatic Palisades terrain, the park occupies the former site of a quarry and industrial waterfront, now reclaimed as a stunning public greenspace with sweeping river views.

The park sits directly on the Hudson, offering visitors rare waterfront access in a region where riverbank land has historically been privately held. Hiking trails wind through regenerating woodlands and along the shoreline, providing views of the Tappan Zee Bridge and the river’s widest point. The landscape blends rugged Palisades geology — exposed diabase cliffs and rocky outcrops — with meadows and young forest that attract migratory birds and local wildlife.

Visitors can enjoy hiking, birdwatching, fishing along the riverbank, and simply taking in some of the most dramatic Hudson Valley scenery accessible from the New York metro area.
