Saugerties Light

Built in 1835 at the mouth of Esopus Creek in Saugerties, New York, this historic Hudson River lighthouse guided vessels through one of the river’s trickiest stretches for generations. Its compact brick structure sits on a stone pier, lending it a distinctive charm among Hudson Valley lighthouses. Now decommissioned, the light is no longer active and is not open to public access or climbing. Golden hour and autumn foliage season offer the best photography conditions, with the lighthouse framing beautifully against the river. Nearby, visitors can explore the village of Saugerties, Opus 40 sculpture park, and the Catskill Mountains, making it an excellent stop on any Hudson Valley road trip.
