Standing guard where Rondout Creek meets the Hudson River, Rondout Light has guided mariners since 1838. The current structure—a handsome brick dwelling topped by a square tower—is actually the third lighthouse on this site, built in 1915 to replace earlier versions claimed by ice and decay. Its distinctive residential design makes it one of the Hudson Valley’s most photogenic beacons. Though the light remains active, the station is not open to the public. The best views come from the Kingston waterfront or by boat, with golden hour on summer evenings offering ideal photography conditions.
