Rocky Point State Park sits on a scenic peninsula jutting into Narragansett Bay in Warwick, Kent County, Rhode Island. Spanning 120 acres, this waterfront park occupies the site of the beloved Rocky Point Amusement Park, which entertained New Englanders for over a century before closing in 1995. Today, the land has been reclaimed as a public green space, blending coastal beauty with traces of its colorful past.

The park’s main draw is its sweeping shoreline along Narragansett Bay. A paved multi-use trail winds through the property, popular with walkers, joggers, and cyclists. The waterfront path offers unobstructed views across the bay toward Prudence Island and the distant shores of Bristol and Portsmouth. At low tide, rocky outcroppings and tidal pools invite exploration. Fishing from the shore is a favorite activity, with striped bass and bluefish running seasonally.

Scattered throughout the grounds, you’ll spot remnants of the old amusement park — crumbling foundations and overgrown pathways that give the park an atmospheric, almost archaeological quality. Interpretive signage shares the site’s history, making it a unique destination that appeals to history buffs and nature lovers alike.

Picnic areas with bay views make this an excellent spot for a family afternoon. The park does not offer camping facilities. Dogs are welcome on leash.

The best time to visit is late spring through early fall, when the bay breezes keep temperatures comfortable and the sunsets over the water are exceptional. Arrive early on summer weekends — parking fills quickly.
