Caesar Creek State Park sprawls across nearly 8,000 acres where Warren, Clinton, and Greene Counties meet in southwestern Ohio, making it one of the largest state parks in the region. The centerpiece is Caesar Creek Lake, a 2,830-acre Army Corps of Engineers reservoir that draws boaters, anglers, and swimmers throughout the warm months.

The park is a genuine destination for fossil hunting — the exposed Ordovician-era shale and limestone along the lake’s spillway and designated fossil collection areas contain brachiopods, trilobites, and other marine fossils dating back 450 million years. It’s one of the few state parks where visitors can legally collect fossils, making it a favorite for families and amateur paleontologists alike.

Beyond the fossil beds, Caesar Creek offers over 40 miles of hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trails winding through mature hardwood forests and open meadows. The Pioneer Village near the park entrance preserves several 19th-century log structures worth a stop. Fishing is productive year-round, with largemouth bass, crappie, and saugeye among the most popular catches.

The park operates a well-maintained campground with electric sites suited for tents and RVs, along with a handful of rent-a-camp options for those traveling light. Spring wildflower season and fall foliage are peak times to visit, though summer weekends at the swimming beach stay busy.
