Standing guard over Waukegan Harbor since 1849, this historic lighthouse is one of the oldest surviving navigational aids on Lake Michigan’s western shore. The modest yet charming tower has guided mariners safely into port for over 175 years and remains an active navigational light maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard.

While the lighthouse is not open to the public and cannot be climbed, it makes a striking photographic subject — particularly at golden hour, when warm light plays against the harbor waters. Early morning visits also offer dramatic lakefront mist.
