Sandusky Pierhead Light stands at the end of a concrete pier in Sandusky Bay, guiding vessels since 1925. This square steel tower replaced an earlier light to mark the harbor entrance along Lake Erie’s southern shore. Its sturdy, no-nonsense design is characteristic of Great Lakes pierhead lights from the era. The lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation but is not open to the public — visitors cannot climb the tower. The best photography comes at sunrise, when warm light hits the structure against the open water. Sandusky serves as the gateway to Cedar Point amusement park and the Lake Erie Islands, with ferry service to Kelleys Island and Put-in-Bay departing nearby.
