Standing guard at the entrance to Port Washington’s harbor on Lake Michigan, this historic lighthouse has guided mariners since 1889. The compact Art Deco–style tower, perched at the end of a concrete breakwater, replaced an earlier structure and remains an active navigational aid maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard.
Though not open to the public for climbing, the lighthouse is a beloved local landmark easily viewed from the harbor and marina. Golden hour and early morning offer the best photography, with dramatic lakefront backdrops. Nearby, visitors can explore the charming downtown, stroll the marina boardwalk, visit the Port Washington Historical Society, or sample fresh catches at the city’s renowned lakeside restaurants.
