Standing in the waters of Delaware Bay off New Jersey’s coast, the Elbow of Cross Ledge Light has marked treacherous shoals since 1910. This caisson-style lighthouse was built to warn mariners navigating the bay’s dangerous shallow ledges. Its sturdy cast-iron and concrete foundation was designed to withstand ice floes and harsh tidal currents.

The light was deactivated and is no longer an active aid to navigation. It is not open to the public, and visitors cannot climb the tower. The best photography opportunities come during golden hour from charter boats on the bay.
