Block Island North Light
Block Island · Rhode Island
Standing sentinel at the northern tip of Block Island, North Light has guided mariners since 1829. This granite lighthouse, located in New Shoreham, Rhode Island, is actually the fourth lighthouse built on this treacherous point—previous structures succumbed to erosion and storms.
The lighthouse is no longer active and is not open to public climbing, but its weathered exterior and remote beach setting make it a photographer’s dream. Visit during golden hour for dramatic shots against the Atlantic backdrop.
The surrounding Sandy Point is a protected wildlife refuge, perfect for spotting migratory birds and harbor seals in winter. Nearby, explore the Maze hiking trails or take the short ferry ride to experience Block Island’s charming Victorian village.
