Elko District Office – Tuscarora

The Elko District Office – Tuscarora serves as the primary information hub for exploring vast stretches of BLM-managed public lands in northeastern Nevada. Staff can provide current road conditions, fire restrictions, and detailed maps essential for navigating this remote high desert terrain.

Dispersed camping is permitted throughout most BLM lands in the district, with no permit required for stays up to 14 days. The landscape ranges from sagebrush valleys to rugged mountain ranges, offering opportunities for hiking, rockhounding, wildlife viewing, and OHV use. Hunters frequent the area during fall seasons for mule deer and upland birds.

Access to many areas requires high-clearance vehicles, particularly after wet weather when dirt roads become impassable. Cell service is limited to nonexistent in backcountry areas, so preparation is critical. The office sells firewood permits and Federal Land Access Passes during business hours, 7:30am to 4:30pm on weekdays.
