Cat Island Light stands on remote Cat Island off the Mississippi Gulf Coast, built in 1831 to guide vessels through the treacherous shallow waters of the Mississippi Sound. This screwpile lighthouse is notable for its isolated location on one of the last undeveloped barrier islands in Mississippi. No longer active, the structure has weathered countless hurricanes, suffering significant damage over the decades. The lighthouse is not open to the public, and the island is accessible only by private boat. Golden hour provides the best photography, with warm light against the Gulf waters. Nearby attractions include the beaches and casinos of Biloxi and Gulfport, plus excellent fishing charters departing from the mainland harbors.
