Crooked River Light
Dog Island · Florida
Rising above the coastal flats of Carrabelle, Florida, the Crooked River Light has guided mariners since 1895. This skeletal iron tower was built to mark the mouth of the Crooked River where it meets St. George Sound, replacing an earlier lighthouse on Dog Island destroyed by hurricanes. Decommissioned and no longer active, the lighthouse is not open to public climbing. Its open framework design and weathered character make it a striking photographic subject, especially during golden hour when warm light plays against the ironwork. Nearby, visitors can explore the quiet charm of Carrabelle’s waterfront, the Carrabelle History Museum, and the beaches of St. George Island, one of Florida’s most pristine barrier islands.
