Dog Island Light

Dog Island Light stands on the remote barrier island of Dog Island, accessible only by boat from Carrabelle, Florida. First built in 1839, this lighthouse guided mariners through the treacherous waters of the Gulf of Mexico’s Apalachee Bay. The original tower was destroyed by hurricanes and rebuilt multiple times, reflecting the harsh coastal conditions that define this isolated outpost. The lighthouse is no longer active and is not open to the public, so visitors cannot climb the tower. The best photography conditions come during golden hour, when warm Gulf light illuminates the weathered structure against dramatic skies. Nearby, visitors can explore St. George Island State Park, the quirky Carrabelle bottle wall, and the Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum.
