Hawkins Point Light
Chesapeake Bay · Maryland
Hawkins Point Light stands at the entrance to Baltimore’s Middle Branch, where the Patapsco River narrows south of the city. Built in 1868, this screwpile lighthouse guided vessels through one of the Chesapeake Bay’s busiest shipping channels for over a century. Its distinctive hexagonal cottage-style design makes it a notable example of mid-19th-century maritime architecture. Now decommissioned and closed to the public, the light is best viewed by boat or from Fort Armistead Park nearby. Golden hour offers the best photography, with the Baltimore skyline as a backdrop. Visitors to the area can explore Fort McHenry National Monument, the Inner Harbor, and the Baltimore Museum of Industry, all within a short drive.
