Built in 1851 on St. Clement’s Island near Coltons Point, Maryland, Blakistone Island Light guided vessels through the Potomac River for over a century. The original lighthouse was destroyed by fire in 1956, and a replica was completed on the island in 2008, honoring its historic legacy. As one of the Potomac’s earliest navigational aids, the light holds significance in Maryland’s maritime heritage. The lighthouse is no longer active and is not open to the public for climbing, though the island can be visited seasonally by boat from Coltons Point.
