Standing at the eastern tip of Buffalo’s north breakwater, this 1903 lighthouse once guided vessels through the busy harbor where Lake Erie meets the Buffalo River. The compact steel tower served mariners navigating one of the Great Lakes’ most important commercial ports during Buffalo’s industrial peak. Decommissioned and no longer active, the light remains a striking fixture on the breakwater, though it is not open to the public and cannot be climbed.

Photographers find the best light at sunrise, when the tower silhouettes against the lake. Nearby, visitors can explore the Buffalo Main Light, Canalside waterfront district, and the Erie Basin Marina, all within easy reach along the harbor.
