Buffalo Harbor North Entrance Light

Standing at the mouth of the Buffalo River since 1903, this cast-iron lighthouse once guided vessels into one of the Great Lakes’ busiest harbors during the peak of grain trade and steel shipping. Its sturdy, utilitarian design reflects the no-nonsense engineering of early 20th-century maritime infrastructure. Now decommissioned, the light is not open to the public and cannot be climbed, but it remains a striking subject from the outer breakwall and surrounding waterfront. Golden hour and winter ice formations make for the most dramatic photography. Nearby, visitors can explore Canalside, the Buffalo and Erie County Naval &038; Military Park, and the revitalized waterfront district along the Inner Harbor.
