Newburyport Harbor Front Range Light
Massachusetts
Standing sentinel at the mouth of the Merrimack River since 1873, this historic beacon continues guiding vessels into Newburyport Harbor. The wooden tower, painted white with a black lantern room, works in tandem with its rear range light to help mariners navigate the challenging river entrance.
Though the grounds are not open to the public and climbing is prohibited, photographers capture stunning images from nearby vantage points. Golden hour and early morning offer the best lighting, with the lighthouse silhouetted against colorful skies.
After viewing, explore downtown Newburyport’s charming waterfront, browse antique shops on State Street, or visit Plum Island for pristine beaches. The nearby Parker River National Wildlife Refuge provides excellent birding opportunities year-round.
