Standing sentinel off the coast of Biddeford, Maine, Wood Island Light has guided mariners since 1808, making it one of Maine’s oldest lighthouses. The granite tower rises above the rocky island, its beacon still actively warning vessels navigating Saco Bay’s treacherous waters.

The lighthouse gained notoriety following an 1896 murder-suicide on the island, spawning enduring ghost stories. While the grounds are not open to public access and climbing is unavailable, the lighthouse makes a striking subject from boat tours and nearby Biddeford Pool beaches.
