Spring Point Ledge Light

Spring Point Ledge Light

Casco Bay · Maine

Rising from the waters of Casco Bay in South Portland, Maine, this striking caisson lighthouse has guided mariners since 1897. The distinctive spark-plug style tower stands on a concrete foundation originally surrounded entirely by water until a granite breakwater was added in 1951, creating the iconic walkway visitors enjoy today.

While the lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation, the interior is not open to public climbing. The best photography opportunities come during golden hour, when warm light illuminates the white tower against the bay.

Nearby attractions include the Southern Maine Community College campus, Bug Light Park with its Greek Revival lighthouse, and Fort Preble’s historic military ruins—all within walking distance along the scenic shoreline.
