Standing guard over the narrow passage between Deer Isle and Crotch Island since 1857, this 25-foot square brick tower marks one of Maine’s busiest fishing channels. The lighthouse was automated in 1958 and remains an active aid to navigation, its white light guiding lobster boats and pleasure craft through the thorofare.

The light station is not open to the public, but photographers can capture excellent views from the water via boat tours departing from Stonington. Golden hour provides the best lighting, with the brick tower glowing warmly against Penobscot Bay’s blue waters.
