Sentinel Island Light
Alaska
Standing guard over Alaska’s Lynn Canal since 1902, Sentinel Island Light is one of the Last Frontier’s most iconic navigational beacons. This active lighthouse continues to guide vessels through one of North America’s deepest and longest fjords. Built to serve the booming gold rush shipping routes, the light has weathered over a century of harsh Alaskan conditions.
Though not open to the public, the lighthouse is best admired from the water. Charter boats from nearby Juneau offer excellent vantage points, with summer months providing the best photography light against dramatic mountain backdrops. Nearby attractions include Mendenhall Glacier, whale-watching excursions in Lynn Canal, and the historic downtown district of Juneau.
