Cape Meares Light

Cape Meares Light

Cape Meares · Oregon

Cape Meares Light stands on a dramatic clifftop near Oceanside, Oregon, where it has guarded the coastline since 1890. One of the shortest lighthouse towers on the Oregon Coast, its compact iron structure made height unnecessary — the cape’s sheer cliffs provide the elevation. Decommissioned and replaced by an automated light, the tower is no longer open to the public for climbing. The surrounding Cape Meares State Scenic Viewpoint offers sweeping Pacific views, the famous Octopus Tree, and excellent seabird watching at the nesting colonies below. Golden hour on clear winter evenings produces stunning photography. Nearby, explore the Three Capes Scenic Route, Oceanside Beach, and the charming village of Tillamook for its legendary creamery.
