Tawas Point Light

Tawas Point Light

Lake Huron · Michigan

Standing on the sandy shores of Tawas Point in Baldwin Township, Iosco County, Michigan, this lighthouse has guided mariners across Lake Huron since 1853. The current tower replaced the original structure in 1876 to keep pace with the shifting shoreline — a recurring challenge at this dynamic spit of land. Its location within Tawas Point State Park makes it one of Michigan’s most scenic lights, framed by sandy beaches and birding habitat. The tower is not open to public climbing, but the exterior and surrounding grounds offer excellent photo opportunities, especially at sunrise when light sweeps across the bay. Nearby, visitors enjoy swimming, hiking, and world-class birding during spring and fall migrations.
