Standing offshore near Port Austin, Michigan, this historic lighthouse was built in 1878 to guide mariners navigating the tip of Michigan’s Thumb region on Lake Huron. The active light continues serving its original purpose nearly 150 years later. Its remote offshore location makes it one of Michigan’s more distinctive and photogenic lighthouses, best captured from shore during golden hour or from the water by kayak or boat tour.
