Grand Traverse Light

Standing guard over the tip of the Leelanau Peninsula since 1852, Grand Traverse Light is one of Michigan’s oldest surviving lighthouses. Built to guide ships through the dangerous waters where Grand Traverse Bay meets Lake Michigan, the light remains active today under Coast Guard operation. The keeper’s dwelling and grounds are maintained by the Grand Traverse Lighthouse Museum, though the tower itself is not open to public climbing. The surrounding Leelanau State Park offers hiking trails and stunning shoreline views. For photography, visit during golden hour in autumn when the lighthouse contrasts against peak fall color.
