Crown Point State Scenic Corridor follows a stunning stretch of the Historic Columbia River Highway east of Portland, delivering some of the most dramatic viewpoints in the Pacific Northwest. The centerpiece is Vista House, a 1917 Art Nouveau observatory perched 733 feet above the Columbia River on Crown Point itself. Step inside for interpretive exhibits on the gorge’s geology and the highway’s ambitious construction, then step outside for 360-degree panoramas that sweep from the Cascades to the river below.

The corridor connects a series of waterfalls, trailheads, and forested pulloffs along the original highway route. Latourell Falls, a 224-foot plunge waterfall, sits just minutes west of Crown Point and offers a short loop trail through mossy basalt columns. Farther east, the road winds past Shepperd’s Dell and Bridal Veil Falls before rejoining I-84. Cycling the historic highway is increasingly popular, with dedicated bike infrastructure making the route more accessible.

There’s no camping within the corridor itself, but Rooster Rock State Park and Ainsworth State Park both sit nearby along the gorge with established campgrounds. For day use, Crown Point has restrooms, parking, and picnic areas.

Visit between May and October for the clearest views and driest trails. Spring brings peak waterfall flow and wildflower displays on the bluffs. Summer weekends draw crowds, so arrive before 9 AM or visit midweek. Fall offers golden big-leaf maples lining the historic road with noticeably fewer visitors.
