Seneca Lake State Park

Sitting at the northern tip of Seneca Lake — the deepest and longest of New York’s Finger Lakes — Seneca Lake State Park has welcomed visitors since 1957. Its 141 acres pack in a surprising amount for a modestly sized park, anchored by direct waterfront access to one of the most striking lakes in the Northeast.

The park’s main draw is its lakefront setting. Seneca Lake’s unusual depth (over 600 feet) keeps the water remarkably clear, and the shoreline here offers swimming at a guarded beach during summer months. A splash pad gives younger kids a place to cool off without venturing into the lake. Fishing is productive year-round — Seneca Lake is known for lake trout and landlocked salmon, and the park provides a convenient boat launch for anglers heading out onto the water.

Beyond the waterfront, the park features picnic pavilions, playgrounds, and a marina. It sits just minutes from the town of Geneva, making it easy to pair a park visit with a stop at nearby Finger Lakes wineries or the charming downtown waterfront.

Camping availability is not confirmed, so check with New York State Parks before planning an overnight stay. Day-use facilities are well-maintained and family-friendly.

The best time to visit is June through September, when the beach and splash pad are open and the Finger Lakes wine trail is in full swing. Early fall brings fewer crowds and stunning foliage reflecting off the lake’s surface — worth the trip on its own.
