Tucked into a dramatic horseshoe bend of the Susquehanna River in Wyoming County, Vosburg Neck State Park protects 669 acres of rugged Endless Mountains terrain that remained largely untouched until its establishment in 2022. As one of Pennsylvania’s newest state parks, Vosburg Neck offers something increasingly rare: a landscape still being shaped by the people who visit it, with trails and access points evolving as the park develops.

The park’s defining feature is the neck itself — a narrow peninsula created by the river’s sweeping meander, surrounded on three sides by water. This geography makes it a standout destination for paddlers exploring the Susquehanna’s North Branch, with calm stretches ideal for kayaking and canoeing. Anglers will find smallmouth bass and walleye in the river’s deeper channels, while hikers can explore wooded ridgelines with views down to the water from several hundred feet above.

Wildlife watching is rewarding here, particularly during spring and fall migrations when bald eagles, ospreys, and herons frequent the river corridor. The surrounding mixed hardwood forests support deer, turkey, and black bear.

Because the park is still in early development, visitors should expect a more primitive experience — no established campgrounds or extensive facilities as of yet. Check with Pennsylvania DCNR for the latest on amenities and trail access before planning your trip.

The best time to visit is late spring through early fall, when river levels are favorable for paddling and the forested hillsides are at their most lush. Fall foliage season is exceptional in this part of the Endless Mountains.
