Nestled in the rolling hills of Lackawanna County, Lackawanna State Park spreads across 1,411 acres of wooded terrain centered around Lackawanna Lake. Established in 1972, the park has become a favorite retreat for northeastern Pennsylvania residents looking to escape into nature without a long drive.

Lackawanna Lake is the park’s centerpiece — a 198-acre reservoir that draws anglers year-round for warm-water species like bass, walleye, and panfish. A paved boat launch accommodates motorboats with a 20-horsepower limit, keeping the water calm enough for kayaking and canoeing. A sandy beach area opens for swimming during summer months, complete with a bathhouse and lifeguard supervision.

Hikers and mountain bikers share over 12 miles of trails that wind through hardwood forests and meadows. The Abington Trail offers an easy lakeside walk, while the North Shore Trail climbs into hillier terrain with views over the water. In winter, these trails convert to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing routes when conditions allow.

The park operates a campground with both tent and RV sites, many of which sit within walking distance of the lake. Modern restrooms and a camp store make extended stays comfortable for families.
