Pinnacle State Park and Golf Course
New York (Finger Lakes County)
Pinnacle State Park and Golf Course sits on 714 acres in the rolling hills of south-central New York, offering a quieter alternative to the busier Finger Lakes destinations. The park’s centerpiece is its nine-hole golf course, one of the few state-operated courses in New York, winding through wooded hillsides with views that make it a favorite among locals who’d rather not fight for tee times elsewhere.
Beyond the fairways, Pinnacle delivers year-round outdoor options. In warmer months, hikers can tackle trails that climb through hardwood forests to overlooks of the surrounding valleys — the park’s namesake pinnacle offers one of the better vantage points in the region. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing take over in winter, with groomed trails that draw a dedicated following from nearby Corning and Hornell.
The park features a modest but well-maintained campground with tent and trailer sites tucked among the trees. It’s the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think — no highway noise, no crowds, just the occasional thwack of a golf ball and whatever the birds are up to. Fishing is available in the park’s small pond, and picnic areas are scattered throughout for day visitors.
Best time to visit: Late May through October for golf and hiking; January through March for cross-country skiing when snow cover is reliable. Fall foliage in early October is exceptional from the hilltop trails.
Pinnacle works best as a weekend escape for families and golfers who value peace over polish.
